Hail to the Cynic in Chief
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell hit the nail on the head the other day. He said that there is no chance of reaching a meaningful deal on reducing spending and getting entitlements under control so long as President Obama holds the office. Thus, the negotiations between House Republicans and the president regarding raising the U.S. debt ceiling stand on the brink of breakdown.
The president’s position is staggeringly cynical. While offering no specifics regarding cutting federal spending, he is quite specific in his attacks on corporate jet owners, big oil companies and those making more than $250,000 per year.
This is pure sophistry.
There is not enough incremental tax revenue to be had from jet owners and oil companies and the most successful Americans to make even a rounding error difference in the federal deficit and the president knows it.
The problem is spending. If President Obama really wanted to solve the problem, he would right now be prioritizing spending to fit within available revenues the way CEOs and business owners all across the country have done.
But the president does not want to solve the problem, he wants to get re-elected and he needs his far left base to do it.
Thus, the U.S. stands on the brink of an embarrassing credit downgrade and a severe crisis regarding paying its bills. All of which could be avoided if we had a true executive running the executive branch.
Mitch McConnell is right.
This is childish parroting of the daily talking points, which frankly are getting pretty old. The GOP has gotten more from the Dems than it was seeking, now it wants more, and in the process has painted itself into a corner of its own making. No one to blame but Boehner and now McConnell, whose racism is showing.
Hasn’t it been obvious for at least a year that barack is determined to keep up his spending spree to benefit his cronies even if it takes the US into bankruptcy? It is high time for the conservative Republicans to expose barack’s agenda and stop participating in the negotiation facade.
The Republicans in the House that won a landslide in the last election should pass a spending bill that guarantees no default on the debt interest payments, and give priority to essential government expenditures such as military pay, Veterans, Social Security, and Medicare without a debt limit increase. This would force a show down with barack and the Democrats in the Senate. If these payments aren’t made, then it will expose barack and the Democrats to be the frauds that they are.
What is it going to take for the Republicans to develop a spine of steel? We didn’t elect them to COMPROMISE with a Marxist. We elected them to STOP barack and his agenda with every tool at their disposal and insist on public debate. They should refuse participation in all this Democrat sponsored secret negotiation stuff. The American people deserve to hear the merits of the arguments being made.
seems the ONLY folks allowed to use the “racism” card are the dems – anyone disagreeing with dems collectively or obama and his frivolous spending are labeled as RACIST BIGOTS – and that seems to include EVERY conservative, even those who think boehner and mcconnell are less than brilliant (actually only selfserving repubs who care little, like obama and other dems, for the people or their opinions but DO care greatly about getting re-elected seem to think highly of boehner and/or mcconnell)
I think that if it comes down to it and we reach an impasse…which is the more likely outcome, the republicans need to just let the chips fall where they may. But one thing should be made VERY CLEAR and that is just what obama’s priorities are in WHO gets paid. He said he can’t say for sure Social Security will be sent out or to the Veterans…well, just WHO IS going to get paid? I am sure all of congress will get paid and the president, well, WHO else if SS and Veteran payments are stalled?
It should be made PUBLIC WHO is on obama’s list for payment! We haven’t found out YET just WHERE all that stimulus money went!!!
