The defining struggle of the 21st century is still in its early stages.

The defining struggle of the 20th century was the Cold War. Could nations possessed of nuclear weapons restrain their impulses to use them? That struggle ended well and ended when it did because of the resolve of the U.S. president. Ronald Reagan “got it.”

The next president faces the defining struggle of the still-young 21st century. That struggle is with Islamofascism. Up until 9/11, no Western nation “got it.” Now, we face a choice in the U.S. between presidential candidates of two vastly different core beliefs. We have candidates that have fully embraced the reality that we are in a protracted struggle with extremists intent on our annihilation and we have candidates that believe we must only try to better understand and “engage” those who seek to do us harm.

The man who was mayor of New York City on Sept. 11, 2001 fully understands the defining struggle of the 21st century. You can read his thoughts here in a lengthy article.

I don’t like his positions on gun control and unfettered access to abortion. I don’t like the fact that he’s had numerous failed marriages. Word is that he’s not the nicest guy in the world to work for.

But if we get the answer to worldwide Islamic extremism and terror wrong, nothing else matters.

So on the strength of his understanding of the existential danger we face, I could vote for him.
