Vigorous debate has been the hallmark of good government since at least the establishment of the Roman senate. Debate is anathema, however, to totalitarian statists.
It is sad to say but nevertheless true that in too many schools today, love of country is no longer taught.
The actual experts that built post-war America have retired, died off and left the scene leaving us not with up & coming protégés but instead an elite “expertocracy”
We can now see what Anthony Fauci was saying in private and compare that to what he was saying in public.
What we have learned – or at least what we should learn – from the pandemic is that people in high positions in government are quick to assume power and slow to relinquish it.
I fear that 2020 marked a point of inflection for American citizens with respect to their fundamental beliefs about the tradeoffs between safety and liberty.
Having imagined the mortality attendant to a runaway coronavirus pandemic, have our policy leaders taken the time to also imagine the mortality attendant to a shutdown of the American economy?
